This is where the river reigns, shaping daily life with its ever-changing waters. During the annual flood, fisheries thrive, and as the waters recede, rice fields are quickly cultivated.
Your journey begins after breakfast, departing Ho Chi Minh City and driving for two hours to reach Cai Be, nestled in the heart of the Mekong Delta. Here, you’ll embark on one of the tour highlights—a cruise along the mighty Mekong River, providing a glimpse the vibrant lives of those who dwell on and around the “Nine Dragon River.” Hop aboard a traditional wooden sampan boat and navigate through the bustling Cai Be Floating Market, a commercial spectacle dating back to the 19th century. Marvel at the boats brimming with exotic produce and engage with locals to gain insights their way of life.
Afterwards, disembark and take a leisurely stroll to a coconut candy factory, where you’ll witness the fascinating manufacturing process of these delightful treats, as well as the local specialty of puffed rice—reminiscent of popcorn. For lunch, savor a mouthwatering home-cooked Vietnamese meal prepared by a local family. Then, meander through their fruit orchard, admiring the abundance of fresh seasonal fruits hanging the trees, all while being serenaded by melodious Vietnamese folk music known as “Don Ca Tai Tu.”
As you reboard the boat, glide along the narrow canals surrounding the island, immersing yourself in the tranquility and lush landscapes of this enchanting part of the Delta, until you arrive in Vinh Long. there, continue your journey to Can Tho, the largest city in the Mekong Delta. This bustling town boasts a vibrant waterfront and a maze of narrow back streets, inviting you to explore its colorful and charming corners. For a relaxed afternoon, take a stroll along Ninh Kieu Park, and cross the pedestrian bridge of Can Tho City, soaking in the ambiance of this captivating locale.
